Using the CPT 3 code for VR-assisted therapy

Attention therapists using Floreo in your practices: Many payors—like Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Cigna, Aetna, Allina, Banner Health, Innovation Health, and Sutter Health—have already added CPT Code 0770T to their systems and many have established reimbursement rates. We encourage you to submit claims as you may be surprised that reimbursement is available.

What You Can Do
Whether or not payors have already included 0770T in their claims processing systems or established reimbursement rates, we encourage providers to:

Submit claims with a reasonable and customary rate based on their clinical and practice expenses.
Monitor reimbursement responses from payors and advocate for coverage where necessary.
Engage with payors to clarify the process for reimbursement under CPT Code 0770T

Practice expense includes technician or clinical staff (not QHP) time directly tied to the use of the VR equipment, supplies (disposable items related to the use of the VR technology), and equipment included in utilizing the VR technology. 0770T should also only be reported once per patient, per session.
By submitting claims for CPT 0770T, you’re helping to shape the future of therapeutic VR access—and making it more affordable and accessible for all.

Heather is Floreo's Director of Customer Success. She makes sure that all of Floreo's customers are comfortable and confident using Floreo. Prior to working at Floreo, Heather worked at Trove (a news start-up) and eBay for Charity. Heather holds an A.B. from Dartmouth College, where she also played varsity basketball (and won an Ivy League Championship) and a M.Ed. from the University of Mary Washington. In her free time she enjoys reading, tennis, skiing, and hiking around Western North Carolina with her husband, two sons, and adorable lab mix, Pepper.
