If you are introducing Learners to Floreo, here are some issues you will want to keep in mind:
Introduce the headset slowly. Some apprehensive Learners may be a bit reluctant to try the headset, until they realize that learning can be fun with Floreo. If possible, let the Learner look through the lenses before asking the Learner to put the headset on. You may also want to show the Learner the view from the iPad before introducing the headset.
Choose an initial Floreo experience that would be appealing to the Learner such as Play the Marimba or Hang Out in the Aquarium. If your Learner might be better engaged with an experience a bit more active, you might try one of the 360 nature videos (such as, Iguana, Lion, or Snowy Landscapes), but be aware that the animals come very close to the Learner's view in these animal lessons which could be a bit jarring as an initial experience, and the movement in the flyover lessons may be initially disconcerting to some.
Check to make sure the Learner can see the lesson clearly. Adjustments to the IPD (i.e., distance between the lenses based on the distance between the Learner's eye pupils), fit of the head strap, etc., may need to be made to help the Learner see the lesson clearly.
Keep initial sessions short (5 min or less) and take a break. Ask the Learner to remove the headset and look at the Learner's eyes to check for redness or fatigue. Use this as an opportunity to discuss with the Learner what lesson was just experienced, as you gauge how they might be feeling. On this page, you can find visual supports that you can use to help the Learners communicate about whether they are feeling discomfort. Learners will typically acclimate to longer experiences in VR after a few sessions, but you should continue to watch for signs of discomfort.
Other acclimating strategies, identified by our partners, such as peer modeling and the use of weighted blankets can be found here.
