New lesson: Why do we need to wear a mask?

New Teaching Story! Public Health: Why do we wear masks?

Who it is for: Learners of all ages

What’s new: During this lesson, we give the Learner a visual representation of the droplets that are released when a person speaks, coughs, sings, or yells to show the Learner the direction and distance that those droplets can travel. We show the difference in droplet spread when the person is un-masked and masked. This exaggerated imagery can help the Learner understand why we are being encouraged to wear a facemask when out in public during the COVID-19 health crisis.

Consider pairing it with: Breathing Train or Crystal Cave under Mindful Thinking. If the Learner is feeling at all anxious about being in an environment with germs, use it along with one of the calming cards either before or after the Mask Learning Card. It’s important for the Learner to understand that we all have germs. Some germs don’t make you sick at all. Some germs might make you a little sick. Other germs can make you very sick.
