Many summer camps emphasize opportunities to get outdoors, but sometimes the weather doesn't cooperate with these grand plans. If it is too hot or too rainy, you and your campers might need to spend a bit of time under shelter. Floreo is a perfect addition to the variety of activities that can be introduced during a summer camp whether or not your original plan was to stay inside. Floreo lessons are a fun way to learn, explore and expand your campers knowledge bases and their skills. You might want to develop themes to entice campers to join a VR group session. Here are some themes you might consider:

The Great (Indoor) Outdoors: Bring the outside indoors with the many Floreo adventures that explore nature. Lessons such as: Chimp, Iguana, Lion, Sloth or Rhinoceros could be used with this theme. For extension activities, ask campers to find places on the map where these animals live: the Koala from Australia, the Orangutan from Sumatra and Borneo, the Lemur from Madagascar, etc. When campers have an opportunity to go outside and explore again, help them discover the bugs and animals that live locally. Investigate what they eat and where they live.

Scavenger Hunt: Ask campers to look for an item that can be found in a Floreo scene. Either before, during or after the lesson, ask them to look around to find the item. If you want to make it a bit more challenging, ask the camper to find an item (for example, an exit sign), then give that camper a choice of 2-3 lessons (in this case, perhaps use: Classroom Preview, Find That Sound, and Trick-or-Treat) to determine if the camper can figure out the most likely place to find an Exit sign. Alternatively, you could ask campers to identify items from a category. For example: Can your campers find vehicles in Floreo lessons? Find a truck (in Emma is Pointing), find different kinds of trains (in Spatial Concepts: Left & Right), find cars, trucks, and buses (in Choose Your Police Encounter); find a boat (in Crystal Cave).

Focus on Water: The critically important Pool Party Safety: The Basics lesson could be front and center for this theme. After learning about ways to stay safe around a swimming pool, expand on this unit by investigating the water animals featured in Floreo's lessons. Our water animal lessons include: Sea Turtle, Dolphin, Sperm Whale, and Asian Water Monitor. Furthermore, a variety of underwater animals are featured in the lessons: Arcadia and Giants of The Sea. And, look out for a second lesson in the Floreo water safety series, coming soon!

Don't Forget About School: The summer is a long time to be away from a school setting and some campers might benefit from some reminders of what it feels like to be in that setting. Try practicing conversations with kids in a school hallway in the Chit-Chat lessons (including: Chit-Chat with Myra, or Chit-Chat with Alejandro), sitting in the classroom in lessons such as the Raise Your Hand or sitting in a school cafeteria in lessons such as Invite a Peer to Sit

You might have campers who are new to Floreo. For ideas on how to start out and how to adapt Floreo to use as a group activity, check out this blog post from earlier this year.
