It is always exciting when we have a content release, but this month is especially exciting since we released two new lessons! Read on to learn more about Choose Your Greeting and Chit-Chat with Myra.

TWO NEW LESSONS

New Lesson: Choose Your Greeting

Who it is for: Learners aged 5+

What's new: This lesson focuses on positive engagement through social smiles and verbal acknowledgments, enhancing non-verbal communication via gestures such as nodding, waving, and shrugging, and teaches the crucial skill of appropriately disengaging from unfriendly encounters by looking away and not responding.

New Lesson: Chit-Chat with Myra

Who it is for: Learners aged 5+

What's new: Learners join Myra in practicing social chit-chat to improve their skills in listening and responding to common small talk comments and questions. Coaches have the flexibility to choose from a selection of everyday topics, incuding: Allergies, Feeling Sad, Favorite Foods, Last Night, Pets, Sports, Recess, Weather The skills addressed in this lesson include: holding back and forth conversations, using social chit-chat, and sharing enjoyment or excitement.

Find Choose Your Greeting and Chit-Chat with Myra in the Social Interactions skill category once you have the latest version of Floreo! If you haven't yet had a chance to download the latest version of Floreo, it's a good time to do it! You can find it in the iOS app store by clicking this link. If you have equipment that you got from Floreo, make sure to turn it on, connect it to WiFi and let the update download before opening the app. If you or your staff would like to talk through the new content or any of the changes we've recently made, please reply to this email to set up time to speak to a member of our team!

Extra Tips for Helping Students Find the Topic of a Conversation: If you have used Floreo's Join a Conversation: Cafeteria or Join a Conversation: Park, you may have encountered times when some students are not able to identify the topic when asked. One way to support a student in this skill is to provide choices of topics from which the student can choose to determine the topic of conversation. Click the link below for more ideas for supporting your Learner in these lessons!

FLOREO CAN BE COVERED BY STATE PROGRAMS

Did you know that Floreo has programs in place with several state waivers? These programs, like the Children's Long Term Support waiver in Wisconsin, or the MAPS program in Tennesee will pay for a Floreo subscription and equipment rental for participating families. We have also had success with families in other states using self-directed funds or funds for assistive technology to purchase a Floreo subscription.

For these subscriptions, a family member often acts as a Coach, but we encourage other members of the participant's care team to use it as well! That means that your family could have a Floreo subscription but an educator or therapist that also works with your child could use Floreo with them to help build skills too!

The best place to start is with your family's service coordinator! Chat with them to see if they can help get a Floreo subscription in place. And if they have any questions, we're always happy to help!

HOW CAN WE HELP YOU GAIN FUNDING FOR FLOREO?

We know that budgets can be tight, and we want to help get Floreo into the hands of anyone who needs it! Please let us know if you need help writing up your DonorsChoose application or with information for a grant you have identified. This is a great resource to find available grants.

IDEA and Title I funds are also great sources to help you access a Floreo subscription.

Heather is Floreo's Director of Customer Success. She makes sure that all of Floreo's customers are comfortable and confident using Floreo. Prior to working at Floreo, Heather worked at Trove (a news start-up) and eBay for Charity. Heather holds an A.B. from Dartmouth College, where she also played varsity basketball (and won an Ivy League Championship) and a M.Ed. from the University of Mary Washington. In her free time she enjoys reading, tennis, skiing, and hiking around Western North Carolina with her husband, two sons, and adorable lab mix, Pepper.
