As a former traveling speech language pathologist, I can honestly say I spent my fair share of time looking for the most efficient way to transport therapy materials and experiences for my students and clients. At Floreo, we are taking a big step toward making VR more accessible, more flexible and easier to implement for clinicians, teachers and families. It's "The Coach Browser Experience" and here are 3 ways it will now be even easier to run Floreo lessons.
- The Coach uses a Web Browser to Navigate the Lesson, expanding the kind of equipment you can use to run Floreo: Instead of being tied to the app on an iPad to initiate and steer the Floreo lesson for the Learner, the Coach controls can be accessed by launching a web browser, signing in as usual and conducting the lesson from the browser. This means that the Coach can use a computer or a tablet ... anything that is able to run one of the major web browsers (Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox) with a screen big enough to see and manage all of the controls we have built in for you. And if you do travel with Floreo, whether it is down the hall or down the road, that may be one less piece of equipment you need to carry.
- The New Format on the screen allows for better pacing of the lessons to accommodate your Learners. In our legacy app, we gave you control and information in a couple of ways: the blue banner updates, which provided instructions to Coach, suggested language for coaching Learners, and a record of the character dialogue; and navigation buttons in the coach's dashboard to record data and move the lesson forward. In some cases, the banners seemed to move too slowly, creating an unnatural pacing of interaction for some Learners. In other cases, the banners moved too quickly, making it difficult for the Coach to provide adequate instructions to the Learner. We have solved that issue by converting those banners to a Coach Transcript, allowing for a faster pace of the lesson if needed, and the ability to scroll back in the transcript if the Learner or the Coach misses something. The transcript remains accessible throughout the lesson. The navigation/data collection buttons have been seamlessly woven into the transcript so they appear at just the right time. Not only does this provide a more complete picture of the Learner's performance, but it also means that the same lesson can be used with a wider variety of Learners because the pacing can be better customized.
- No More Last Minute Updating of the Floreo App/s. If you have been a Floreo user in the past, you might have been in a situation in which you were ready to start a session, but suddenly one or both apps needed updating. Think of that as a bygone era. When you launch the Coach Browser Experience, you won't be blocked or delayed by needing an update on your Learner device. The Coach experience via the browser will always be up to date, and is able to accommodate the version running on your Learner device. Nevertheless, we recommend that you update the Learner device at your convenience, since that will get you all the latest content and bug fixes. We are confident that this change will make the running of Floreo lessons even more efficient.
